About Massage The word Massage is derived from the French massage "friction of kneading," possibly from Arabic massa "to touch, feel, handle" or from Latin massa "mass, dough". It is the treatment and practice of manipulation of the soft body tissues with physical, functional, i.e. mechanical, medical/therapeutic, and in some cases emotional purposes and goals. For thousands of years, massage has been used by all cultures, worldwide, to heal and soothe the sick. It offers the gift of touch, movement and energy, qualities that are associated with wellbeing. Recent studies on massage have established that this therapy can lower an individual's blood pressure, make one feel more relaxed, relieve tension, soothe away headaches, relax tense muscles or conversely make someone more alert. Massage can preserve health, assist in healing illness and relieve us from stiffness and pain. It provides us with a means to counteract stress and to deeply relax. Massage can also be a journey of self-discovery, revealing how it feels to be more relaxed and in tune with ourselves, to experience the pleasure of a body that can breathe and be more in tune with itself. Massage TechniquesThere are up to 80 styles of massage listed in the Wikepedia pages (The free online encyclopedia). I have listed only a few. Swedish The most common type of relaxation or stress reduction massage. This type of massage helps to reduce stress, circulate blood and lymph flow, and remove toxins from muscle tissue. Amma This type of therapy is regarded as one of the three limbs of oriental medicine. Its basis is to focus on balancing the musculoskeletal system and promoting the proper flow of Chi, Blood and Fluids, which regulate major body functions. Sports This technique helps athletes train, prepare and recover their muscles from exertion. Remedial Remedial massage uses several specialised techniques to locate and repair
damage and to support and speed up the body's own repair mechanisms. The
massage is applied directly to the skin using a lubricating medium, usually
pure vegetable oils, which ensures that the muscles associated with the disorder and mobilisation of the joint are deeply penetrated. Passive stretching moves
are also used. Medical Working by prescription, the medical massage therapist works with pathologies, pain or recovery from injury. Trigger Point This therapy is used to help repair damaged parts of muscle connections due to physical or emotional stress. It does so by manipulating the trigger point to increase blood circulation and release it of toxins. Myofascial Release A technique used to address the musculature and elastic components of body tissue, helping to realign and free the fascia. In doing so also helps to release memories of past trauma stored in the tissue. Results in increased ranges of motion and decreased spasm and pain. Reflexology is an art and science that is based on the principle that there are reflex points and areas in the ears, hands, and especially, the feet that correspond to every gland, organ, and part of the body. By skillful stimulation of these areas and points with hand, finger and thumb techniques, the body systems are facilitated to greater balance. Sensual Relaxation Massage A light caressing movement with the hands incorporating both European & Sweedish techniques. It is a pampering massage that coddles the body and imparts a spiritual nature to the massage. It is as non-tangible as a massage can get and can affect the very soul of the person whose body is being indulgently treated. If ever there was a way to sooth ones emotional state of well being, this would be it. Far Infra-Red Sauna Sauna sessions are complementary to massage - they induce a state of relaxation of muscle tissues, encourage weight loss by increasing metabolic rate, improve skin tone and general wellbeing, remove toxins from the body and above all ... relax..... Pamper yourself today...... and book for a massage with a combined sauna session. Reduced rates are applied when sessions are combined.
