Learning Discoveries Psychological Services was established in 1991, by Rosemary Boon, psychologist, teacher and nutritionist to provide alternative and complementary interventions to medication.
The Pyramid of Development, Learning and Wellbeing developed by Rosemary Boon at Learning Discoveries, provides a holistic over view of her multi-disciplinary approach, using a combination of “state of the art” intervention techniques, that are drug free and non-invasive. All these strategies aim to improve brain function, optimise learning and increase wellbeing. These techniques also assist with learning disabilities in adults and children. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) learning disability
At Learning Discoveries we pride ourselves as being one of the most experienced centres in Sydney offering Neurofeedback therapy for ADHD and associated learning difficulties.
Neurofeedback therapy for ADHD can be thought of as “exercise for the brain” and it allows our practitioners to deliver a drug free, non invasive and safe method of improving attention and mental control in those who exhibit symptoms of ADHD or ADD. ADHD , learning disabilities and emotional disorders can be directly addressed with neurofeedback therapy.
The advantage of this type of training, is that it can be done in conjunction with medication, cognitive behaviour therapy, diet and physical therapy. From our experience of working with children and adults with ADHD and learning difficulties we can report that in most cases, the improvement in brain function continues long after the training has stopped. We are familiar working with ADHD in adults and learning disorders in children.

Learning Difficulties
As a qualified teacher with over 30 years in special education, school counselling and educational psychology. Rosemary provides a comprehensive assessment battery that looks at many different aspects of learning. Children with learning disabilities are able to be addressed in a professional manner. Regardless of the types of learning difficulties we are prepared to offer helpful services. Rosemary, provides specialised and individualised remedial teaching for children, teenagers and adults in the following areas:
Nutrition, Diet and Food Intolerance
Nutrition is the cornerstone of brain function and hence, this issue is addressed prior to the commencement of all of other interventions. We also now provide a Food Intolerance Test, which enables us to do a quick and reliable intolerance test, with results available on the same day. . An exciting addition to our services now includes personalised genetic profiling through the Fitgenes program. This program analyses a number of genes to determine what nutritional and lifestyle factors influence physical health, emotional well being and brain function (nutrigenomics). Nutrigenomic interventions then target an individual’s uniquedietary needs. People with ADHD and learning difficulties are known to have more food intolerances and genetic variations than the normal population and is the reason why this testing is incorporated into an assessment of learning difficulties.
Counselling & Parent Education
To improve working memory deficits common in the ADHD ,Learning Difficulties and head injured populations, the Cogmed Working Memory Training program is used. This evidence-based cognitive intervention has a decade of peer-reviewed research behind it and has been shown to significantly improve attention, focus and the ability to work independently in children and adults with ADHD learning disabilities.
To complete the holistic approach we also provide counselling. A client-centred approach is adopted and includes: goal setting, breaking old behavioural patterns, stress management and health and lifestyle issues. Parent education regarding school based and behavioural issues is undertaken in a nurturing and caring environment to encourage and empower parents to address these issues effectively at home and school. Parent education is quite effective in dealing with learning disabilities in children.
